Cllr. Jamal C. Dehtho, Jr. is a Professor of Law and an experienced Energy, Environmental and natural resource Lawyer. His passion is to share his knowledge and experience by enabling other individuals to see beyond the horizon and use their knowledge to build Liberia.

Cllr. Dehtho also holds a Bachelors of Law (LLB., Hons.) degree from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law in December 2012, top of his class. He later obtained a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources Law from the University of Houston in Texas, USA in 2015.  He also has a Certificate in International Commercial Arbitration from the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center in Houston, Texas, USA.

He is the first Liberian Lawyer to have successfully sat and passed the Bar Exam in Texas, United States of America, on the first try.

He was admitted to the practice of Law in September 2017 and March 2013 with the State Bar of Texas (as an Attorney and Counsellor at Law) and the Liberian National Bar Association (as an Attorney-at-Law) respectively. He was also admitted to the Supreme Court Bar of the Republic of Liberia (2018) with the highest distinction.

He is a licensed Counselor-at-law and is currently in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and the Liberian National Bar Association.

As a licensed Counselor-at-law with over eight (8) years of legal experience, he handles several cases including providing legal advisory support to both local and international corporate clients, setting up legal entities, employment, contract negotiation and dispute resolution, immigration, tax, debt recovery, wills, trusts, adoption, and a host of criminal matters, etc. He has also participated in several arbitration proceedings both as Chairperson and member.

He is the youngest individual to serve as an Associate Dean and Assistant Professor in the history of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia (“Law School”).

He is also the founder and Senior Partner of the Dehtho & Partners, LLC Law Offices located in Duport Road, Paynesville and Sanniquellie, Nimba County, respectively.

He is the former Associate Dean and teaches several courses at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, including Legal Research and Writing, Torts, Evidence Law, Mineral Law, Petroleum Law, etc.

He has worked and provided legal services for several private and public institutions including Pricewaterhouse Coopers(“PwC”), Dunbar & Dunbar Law Offices, external counsel for Lonestar Cell MTN, National Democratic Institute(“NDI”), International Finance Company (IFC), World Bank, UNDP, and several public entities including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Oil Company(“NOCAL”), Liberian Petroleum Refining Company(“LPRC”), and the Liberian Senate. He is a Liberian whose passion drives him to help to improve and make a difference in the legal system in Liberia.
